Training in Development, HaitiFrom the viewpoint of long term development and making a lasting difference, perhaps the most important work we have undertaken has been that of providing training courses on aspects of development.
In January last Mr Sjoerd Zanan of MDF Training (Netherlands) and our Development Officer, Barbara McCauley, conducted a 5-day course for 31 young Haitian Oblates in Les Cayes, Haiti. Entitled, “Principles, Practice and Skills of Development”, it included modules on development culture and terminology, project cycle management, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, child safeguarding, donor/beneficiary relationship, project reporting.
Workshops were relevant and lively. Participants’ comments afterwards included: ‘I’m now better able to manage community projects.’ ‘I have never done anything like this before. It was useful and fitted the Haitian context.’
A Misean Cara grant of €13,500 helped with costs.
